The word “staple” by itself is not enough information. Plain staples, capped fastening systems and fasteners used only for temporary positioning are not equivalent. The exact assembly controls what is acceptable.

Installation Quality Can Defeat the Right Fastener

Correct fastener selection still fails if the nail or staple is driven badly.

Correctly seated

The fastener holds the material as intended without remaining proud or cutting excessively into the material being retained.

Overdriven

Excessive drive can damage roofing material beneath the nail head or staple crown and reduce the attachment’s intended bearing area.

Underdriven

A proud fastener can interfere with overlapping roofing layers or leave the component inadequately seated.
